It seems I was tagged by Maggie on this one :-) so I figure I better get hoping or she might "punch me in the nose" - you have to know Maggie folks! It's 2008 and I guess this will be my first post of the new year. I was hoping to get one out about work stuff or even better on @eventtrack but the cards just didn't fall where I needed them I guess.
So here we are 2008 and 8 things you "probably" don't now about me, this is actually quite hard since I'm pretty open person and I did something similar in Dec of '06 here...
1. I've only had contact with one person from the time of my life before 14 years old and that is only because that person ended up in the same high school as me later on. I'm a military brat so either we were moving every 3 years or someone else was. I've made up for it though I think since then :-)
2. I have a secret desire to build something that proves to be quite useful to a lot of people and at the same times lets everyone participate without having to change what tools/services they already use - hence the passion and effort I'm putting into @eventtrack, I simply hate being unable to participate because "only this" or "only that" works with it. They are called API's for a reason.
3. I love to fly, sail planes are the best it's the closet thing to "flying" you can get and at the same time being at peace with just yourself they are so quiet it's just so awesome! However I've never trusted myself to go and get the license. I've studied and I could probably past the exams I've just not trusted myself to do it - and there are two schools near me.
4. I've been working on a book now for 2 years which covers 5 years of my life living in Germany and even though it's done, many want to read it and those who have see parts of it like it I still can't bring myself to pull the trigger and publish it.
5. In High School my friends all took German because the pretty girls all lived outside the US, I took Latin because it was not as confusing as Spanish (mixed it up with Italian from the 8 years I lived there) and all the pretty girls "here" were in the Latin class. The German class had like 3 girls. My response to everyone though was "I'll never learn that stupid guttural language or even live there so why bother", I've lived in Germany now since October 31, 2001.
6. In High School the 10 year plan was to move to the Bahamas with two buddies and open a dive shop, they joined the military and went to college and plans changed.
7. I've never really been someone who takes vacations, in fact in 2007 I took a total of 8 days of which 4 I actually did "work" prior to that it was 2004 where I spent 3 weeks traveling in the US and did "only" a little work
8. I once learned how to do American Sign Language just so I could ask a girl out on a date.
To keep with the spirit I tag Alvaro Tejada, Michael Coté, Nigel James, Eddie Herrmann, Dan McWeeney, Matthias Zeller, Frank Köhntopp, Dennis Howlett and Rich Heilman.

Okay - first of all, I like to threaten to punch people in the face, not the nose. Second - I think if you're worried about getting your pilot's license, you should go with that feeling. I don't want to read about you on the news. Third, publish the damn book, would you?
Best wishes for '08!
