Gave it a shot myself and was quite happy, more of a diversion from the norm - give it a go yourself takes less than 30 seconds to register.

Oh I've been quiet lately...
Well I'm actually on vacation and a pretty complete one at that I guess. Since I started in the corporate world I've taken 4 vacations I think (8 years now) where I've been "offline"...
This one was filled last week with visitors from the US (family) and the next two weeks I've tearing apart our garden ;-) I need to make room for my new "office".
So today was the start of knocking down the walls that are currently there (call a wood and tool shed but not really 100% enclosed)
I'm not able to go at too much due to my small back injury back in January but Nicole has been at it with me along with her father so we managed a huge amount today and we'll probably be finished with the rest of the wall in a day or two.
That's the beast there then it's matter of clearing out the rest of the firewood and tearding that whole section up to the tree there. Then middle of May we build up the new "office" and I move in there for the daily work thing...
Until then if you need me send me an email, or if you are inclined come catch me in SecondLife, it's sort of my retreat away at night to unwind from all the hard work ;-)
Even went to the ballet...

Office 2.0 Database - Side Job Track
I came across a blog entry somewhere within my 300 feeds this morning for a new service (online of course) for the life of me I can't find it again but the service is called Side Job Track, knowing that the o20 DB was probably already updated on this one I rushed over to see and then to the site itself.
I signed up and filled in a project I did the end of 2005, I don't do a lot of side jobs anymore so it's nice to have someplace that I can track them when I do them. The one I added was the book I wrote, as I need to of course deal with the tax crap around it now.
Now as I've seemed to have changed career paths and am no longer a developer I doubt I'll have serious need but if I ever get asked to do more consultanting or dev work I'll have an easy way to track it.

How can we capitalise on Twitter’s addictiveness? at Tom Raftery’s I.T. views
Tom brings up an interesting point, I can see a way that Twitter itself can capitalise and make money on all of us addicted folks but can we make money with Twitter itself?
Let's take for example a small company, just a few guys out there working together in a startup environment or heck what about a large enterprise company and it's a department of guys?
Well each of these folks is constantly on the road or away from the "office", so how best to communicate without distracting each other from the work at hand? Twitter fits perfectly BUT in Twitter you only have two options "private or "public" what if Twitter was to offer a third level? Groups.
Groups, would allow me to create a virtual team of Twitter members that would give them the security of "direct messages" and "private updates" without making them creating a second account just for that purpose. I could Twitter to the public, to my friend or to my group or multiple groups and considering the massive adoption Twitter has going right now they could be like TimeToMeet and offer up the "pro" package for allowing groups for mere pennies, TimeToMeet I think it's what $5 for 6 months of subscription? It would be value added on top and still my choice to use or not.
But this is just Twitter making money off of us, how can we make money with Twitter directly? Scoble could probably make a decent effort, he's got several hundred friends and followers right now so the basic "ad" or "pay per post" jumps into my head right off the bat. Scoble decides that he'll "host" ads in his feed (of course paying for the "Pro" subscription so Twitter is getting their kickback) and has the ability to select various and how often they are filtered into his posts say every 100 twitters he pops an add in simple little text deal nothing much (140 characters of course) but that's the same old (but tried and true) "ad" model.
Is there another way? I mean how would you feel if you kept getting an "ad" popping up into your "friends feed" every once and awhile and then when all of your friends started to doing it you get nothing but ads? I'd rather pay a "pro" subscription NOT to get those "ads" but that's just me.
Certainly need to give this some more thought - perhaps Tom will host a Podcast "panel" or something to talk about it...

Office 2.0 Database
For me a huge announcement, for you just a new link to update ;-)
The Office 2.0 Database which I have submitted several new apps to is now over 450 strong and still growing, some are dropping out but others are being added. It's the way of the web I guess, some apps will make some will not and some will be bought up while others will fade away...
In either case Ismael has done a marvelous job collecting all of these together and has the most complete list out there and he just launched the database into it's very own site and domain: http://o20db.com/
So update your bookmarks and subscribe to the feed and submit the other great apps you find out there!

Brand New World in Second Life
I found this over on down the avenue,
Taken from BoingBoing today, this is a little creepy. A character has been in his Second Life for so long that he has forgotten.....the video documents this transition in his new virtual life.
I admit I've not done much in Second Life other than sign up and basically fly around a lot. Seems others have done quite a bit and of course created many a video about it as well.
Now I figured I should jump in a lot more, there being talk at SAP about Second Life and all I guess I should at least take a closer look - any tips, hints, suggestions?

Twitterphobia
twit·ter·pho·bi·a
–noun
an abnormal fear of being disconnected, or unable to send, receive, view or otherwise interact via IM, Mobile or Web interfaces to Twitter, sometimes accompanied by anxiety attacks, uncontrolled fits of rebooting, clearing cache and consist complaining.
Common signs,
was Twitter offline there for a while?
seems to have lost several updates as well
twitter doesn't advance pages :-(
Can't submit messages via Gtalk to Twitter. Switching back to web client.
twitter seems to be swallowing updates
Usually followed by feelings of elation and peace once the problem as subsided,
Twitter in Gmail works again. Yeah...

Preparing for Office 2.0 2007
Looks like we are on again! Quite Excellent and the timing looks pretty good as well, the announcement comes right in the middle of me recreating the demo I had there last time which is quite fun as it's just extra motivation.
Also happens to be right in the middle of me waiting to try out ThinkFree, hoping it arrives soon!
I of course would love to say that I (and SAP) will be there and in the same capacity as last year but only time will tell but the conversation has already started!
With a lot more time to give things some thought if when we are there I'm sure we are going to have something more to show as well. So many new and cool services out there, so many ideas...
